The first step to any project is a “brief” overview of what the client needs! As the designers, this is where we gather as much information as we can about the client’s needs, mission, vision, goals, and audience. With these questions answered, everyone is on the same page about what they want and need out of the results of the project
With the “brief” questions answered, it’s now time to dig in and start researching!
During this phase, we seek information on the competitors, point of differentiation (POD), market, audience, trends, and future prospects. The purpose of this research is to give us a 360° view of the client’s ecosystem and generate ideas that fit the market, industry trends, and the client’s customers.
Now that we have a clear understanding of our client and the market, the creative fun begins!
At this stage, ideas are normally already brewing. We begin by sketching ideas on paper and then it’s onto the computer. Design exploration of fonts, textures, shapes, icons, tag lines all happens now. We could have up to 5 different explorations of a single design until we feel like it’s refined enough.
This is where we take our refined design options and present them to the client and WOW them! Although each design has a reasoning behind it, we don’t present with an explanation
because we like our client to have an unbiased opinion. After the client is wowed, there are
(almost always) design revisions. In most cases, we can nail a design in two rounds of revisions.
After the design has been approved, it’s time to deliver the final design and files! Depending on what the project is we will deliver a folder of final files. At this point, we hope we have satisfied our client and created something timeless and beautiful for their company. We will finish up with an on-line invoice and a great friendship that hopefully leads to working together again in the future.
